Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Memon has joined the team in Bangkok in December 2016, previously he was working with UN Environment at International Environmental Technology Centre located in Osaka, Japan since 1 April 2005. He has developed and implemented various programmes, projects and initiatives especially in the field of urban environmental management and converting waste and waste water into resource. He initiated and launched the Global Partnership on Waste Management in 2010. He has supported waste wastewater management for various waste streams and thematic areas. Dr. Memon, before joining UNEP in April 2005, has worked as Senior Policy Researcher for Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (2002-2005) to implement UN-ESCAP project (Kitakyushu Initiative for a Clean Environment), Director of Human Resources and Training for Sindh Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (1994-1996), Port Engineer at Karachi Port (1996-98), and Port Engineer at Port Qasim Authority (1989-94). Dr. Memon has a Doctorate degree in environmental economics from Hiroshima University in Japan (1998-2002), a Master’s degree in national development and project planning from University of Bradford in UK (1992-93), a postgraduate diploma in Transport from Karachi University (1991-92 evening course) and Chartered Institute of Transport, Bachelors in civil engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro (1989) and schooling at Cadet College Petaro in Pakistan. He has also published various papers in international journals.
